What a fantastic compilation of songs. Thanks to your site, I am remembering so many of these wonderful songs I used to sing when I was young. You can bet that I'll dust off the old Martin and get back in the groove. Thank you and your mom for sharing these songs with all of us out here.

From: Cindy My dearest friend Peter asked me if I could find the words and chords to the song "Boxer" and we were so delighted to find them on your web site! We are both really curious to know how web pages are invented and that it doesn't cost anyone anything. How can that be? Amazing world... He was in his 20's in the 60's playing in rock bands (even on tour to Vietnam with a group during the war), he is also amazed that since these songs are copy written - how is it that someone can post them on the web? We are truly thankful to you and your Mom for sharing this talent of yours with the world.

Thanks for all the effort you've put in to spreading music (and therefore joy) to strangers. It gives me faith in humanity that people like you share simply for the sake of sharing, with nothing to gain. Was wondering if you, or anyone else reading the guest book, knows where I could find the chords to 'River of Jordan' by Peter, Paul & Mary, in the movie Airplane. I's a really beautiful song and I just can't find it anywhere.

From: Art James My wife had purchased my first six string acoustic for Christmas '87. This yamaha has been with me since. Sadly I never did learn to play well enough. I suppose being able to fret "F's", "B's" and barring chords will always elude me; but I always pick it daily and strum out a few simple-basic tunes. It's sites like yours that inspire me to keep trying. Thank you for sharing. Art James. (One day I'll get real clever and be able to play all songs I like in C, D, E, A, or G. But there was a song written named Dream, Dream, Dream...) ;) Art

What a great site!! I am 62 and these were the songs of my youth! So good to see them and how often I tried to play them, having no musical ability. Still, I have been looking for songs by a singer of that time, Lynn Gold I believe her name is. She sang on an album, Sakura ("cherry blossoms fill the sky") and a song about a "chevron perched" does that ring any bells?

Thank you so much for this wonderful website. It's helping me reconnect to my old folk singing days, with so many songs I have long forgotten. If I may offer one correction, below are the correct words to Phil Ochs' Changes, taken directly from his songbook The War is Over published by Barricade Music in 1968 (yes, I am one of those geeks who still has his copy of this tome from my college days. Below are only the two verses that are not correct. Moments of magic will glow in the night. All fears of the forest are gone, and when the morning breaks, they’re swept away like golden drops of dawn, of changes Passions will part to a strange melody As fires will sometimes burn cold, like petals in the wind, We're puppets to the silver strings of souls, of changes. Again, thank you so much for this website.

Hey Aaron, I just came across your guitar pages. I really like the tunes that you picked. Many of them are what I grew up listening to as a teen and beyond -- you and your mom have good taste :-). The chord structure is great -- not too complicated yet complements the songs. I've been banging around on the guitar for a long time and still can't play real well. These tunes (with the chording) you've put together make me feel that I can play not too bad :-) Thanks for that. Keep the site going Aaron. It's a happy place. All the best, dave

This is a wonderful resource for those of us who enjoy singing and have basic guitar skills, but not the ear to figure out the chords on our own! I haven't gone through the whole thing yet, but I did notice "900 miles" has no author attributed. It was written by Woody Guthrie.

I had a binder that had all of my folk music with their guitar chords in it. I was in my 20's when I put this binder together. I sang and strummed that music for years. I haven't touched my guitar in at least 35 years. Suddenly a few months ago, I looked at it and went to look for my binder of music. God knows what happened to it. But in my usual persistence, I went onto the webb and my search was happily completed. Your mom's songs and chords were my songschords. So this "older" lady who needs to move her fingers again, thanks you.

I taught myself guitar at age 16, mostly on these songs....now, at 51, I'm teaching myself the drums.... If you ever come across the chords/lyrics for "Green Green" (I think the New Christie Minstrels recorded it, among others), I would LOVE to have that - it somehow got misplaced 30 years or so ago... Again, thank you so much for your hard work and dedication - what a wonderful thing to do!

Three lads were singing and playing quitars, mandoline and fiddle (not all at the same time!) Absolutely super evening dining and singing by a log fire. On the way down the mountain, the lost words of "...it's a lesson toolate for the learning" came to mind and are now stuck there. I googled you up and "voila!" you have the missing words! Thank you very much. The only bit which doesn't quite fit for me is the phrase in the last stanza "as I lie in my bed EVERY morning" My fading memory seems to suggest "as I lie in my bed IN THE morning" Glad I found your site. Personally, I was a Chemistry/Bio major before dental school 30plus years ago, so I appreciate your academic pursuit as well as your interest in nature. Hey Hey! I've enjoyed strumming through your collection~ On The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down - i think the lyric is "Stoneman's calvary" instead of "Stonewall's calvary". Stonewall was a CSA officer and Stoneman a US. I used to have this switched too -as Stonewall Jackson is a more popular figure. As the song, though is about the tragedy/misery of confederate southerners at the end of the war, Stoneman is a better fit. Stoneman conducted pretty nasty raids in my home area - piedmont north carolina, east tennessee and southwestern virginia. For that reason you won't find hardly a native southerner named Stoneman, or to similar effect - Sherman.

From: larry paulsen I recently started to work with my acoustic guitar again after a hiatus of 26 years. I went deaf in 1981. I played the guitar, banjo, mandolin, acoustic bass, and piano. So it was quite a blow. I received a cochlear implant in 1982 but the amount of hearing I got back was insufficient to let me recognize music as anything but noise. Now, with my latest upgrade, music is starting make more sense. It has been a long dry spell. Finding your website was a breath of fresh air because I have forgotten a lot of the lyrics of the folk music I used to play and I need some help. Your site is providing that. It is wonderful. You certainly have my permission to post this as it may come to the attention of any other people with hearing problems who enjoy music. Also, I'd like your personal input, if you have a chance to drop me an e-mail and let me know if you know of any people with problems similar to mine. Hey Aaron! so i'm not sure if you'd even remember me but, you wrestled for my dad ((Bret Byers)) when you were in high school. I was probably 7 or 8. Well in June we're throwing my dad a birthday party and i'm getting all of his wrestlers together. I've found almost everyone--but i didnt know how to get a hold of you since you're in Puerto Rico ((that place is amazing, i went there for a week)). I was just wondering if i could get your address so i could send ya and invite. if you want to email me some info on how to send it to ya that'd be great. i think i've got mostly everyone but try and name off some of the guys you wrestled with just so i dont miss anyone! thanks a ton!

Thanks for providing folks with the music. I'm a middle-aged guy who, instead of wild women and fast cars, chose the guitar as a middle-age crisis solution. These songs remind me of my childhood, and singing 'round the fire. Its fun to play them! Again, thanks.

What a lovely site. My husband spent many years as a professional photographer capturing some lovely pictures across Africa. Your online magazine brings back a lot of happy memories. Thank you.

THANKS, Great tunes, I've got a bunch loaded up on my cpmputer that I can send backto you. Lots of similar era songs. Lightfoot Ochs, folk mostly. Used tp play coffee houses in the late 60's. Still jam with some bluegrass folk but my heart belongs to the folk music of the mid to late 60's. Not sure where you're from but if you're ever in Oregon on the north coast give a shout and bring your guitar

From: Karen Your site whisked me back to my teen years singing with my guitar. I recently joined a gathering of musicians to share what we know (knew), and was pleased to find so many of the ones I always enjoyed singing back then. I may be 52, but singing these songs again makes me feel youthful! Thanks! Karen

From: Tom Roach For my taste this is the best site I have ever found. Great selection of songs, good simple notation. Well done. I have been collecting songs for years, and I found at least two dozen on your site that I didn't have, or you had an easier to read version. Thank you!

From: Derek Thanks! Here I am stumbling through the web and I am gracefully swept back to the summers at camp where I learned to play guitar - when I forged a lifelong friendship with folk music. Think I'll go play for awhile.

I just started playing the guitar (i am 48) and these are the songs I have always wanted to sit on the back porch and play. You have made this so much more fun because I dont have to spend the next four years finding these songs I get started right in on "butchering" them. Thanks to you and your mom

I've played guitar for years, but have just now got around to tracking down chords for all the songs I half-know or have always wanted to learn. Thanks for posting all of this -- it's been a great help. One thing: Years ago I learned The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald with the first chord as Aadd9, not the Asus2 that you have here. Perhaps you are working from a different version.
